The Fadails - Virtues of Ramadan

•Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). All the verses of the Quran were revealed either completely or partially in this month.

•The gates of Jannah (heaven) are opened during Ramadan and the gates of Jahannam (Hell) are closed.

•All good deeds performed during Ramadan are rewarded 70 times more than at any other time.

•The night of power (Laylatul Qadr) occurs in the last 10 nights of Ramadan when the Quran first descended to the lowest heaven. This night is better than 1000 months.

•All sins are forgiven for those who fast during Ramadan with sincere intentions and avoid major sins.

The Masail - Rulings Regarding Ramadan

•Fasting in Ramadan is fard (obligatory) upon all adult Muslims except for the sick, travelers, pregnant women and those with menstrual periods.

• Sahur - the pre-dawn meal - is sunnat (recommended) before the start of the fast.

• Iftaar - breaking the fast at dusk - is also sunnat.

•Taraweeh prayers are performed after the Isha prayer in congregations throughout the month.

•Zakat ul Fitr must be paid before Eid prayer.

The Ahkamaat - The Importance of Ramadan

Ramadan is an important month for Muslims to:

•Gain taqwa (awareness of Allah) through fasting and Quran recitation.

•Seek forgiveness and mercy of Allah through intense worship.

•Purify the soul and increase one's iman (faith)

•Strengthen family and community ties through participating in Ramadan activities together.

•Donate charity to provide iftar and sahoor to the needy.

•Make up for any past sins and shortcomings and start afresh.
